Circuit to interface a 16 * 2 Graphic LCD to Arduino Uno (Part 1 of 2)

Displays are the commonly used method to give output to users from controllers and processors. An advanced form of such types of displays is monitor of your computer. For simple microcontroller applications, we don’t need such kinds of large displays. There, we need a simple display, to display a word or a sentence. Then, we will go for small displays.

Diagram below shows the circuit for interfacing a simple 16 * 2 Liquid Crystal Display to arduino uno. Connections are done as shown in the following diagram.

Connections can be summarized as :

  • Pin 1 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to Gnd of arduino uno.
  • Pin 2 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to 5V of arduino uno.
  • Pin 3 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to central terminal of 10 K pot.
  • Pin 4 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to digital pin 12 of arduino uno.
  • Pin 5 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to Gnd of arduino uno.
  • Pin 6 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to digital pin 11 of arduino uno.
  • Pin 11 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to digital pin 5 of arduino uno.
  • Pin 12 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to digital pin 4 of arduino uno.
  • Pin 13 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to digital pin 3 of arduino uno.
  • Pin 14 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to digital pin 2 of arduino uno.
  • Pin 15 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to 3.3V of arduino uno.
  • Pin 16 of 16 * 2 LCD is connected to Gnd of arduino uno.
